Secondary glazing is a fully independent window system installed to the room side of existing window fenestration. The original windows always remain in position and in their unaltered form. Glazing Refurbishments specialise in delivering Commercial Secondary Glazing Projects only. Secondary glazing is available as fully removeable opening sections as required or in a fixed unit application. The open-able panels can be either horizontal/vertical sliding sashes or a side hung casement details. These designed opening sections facilitate access to the external window for cleaning and allows the opening of both the secondary glazing and external windows for ventilation purposes. Fixed installations of secondary glazing sections are designed, manufactured and installed to allow our Clients to simply remove the secondary glazing sections in warmer months when the thermal benefits are not required.
Secondary glazing is suitable for a wide range of commercial projects and applications to include; schools and universities, colleges, office blocks and any building located within an appointed conservation area.
Enhanced Thermal Insulation
With ever increasing energy costs, the continuous revisions to Building Regulations and of course the drive to create thermally efficient buildings, there has never been a better time to consider a secondary glazing installation. Whilst double-glazing can assist in terms of improving the thermal performance of your building, it alone simply cannot completely stop the loss of heat in your building. The procurement and installation of a secondary glazing system provides an additional thermal barrier and will have the added benefits of reducing both the energy loss and costs.
Acoustic Insulation
Building Regulations Approved Document E, becomes particularly relevant when we consider the need to control the noise in the spaces we create to either live, work or indeed study. The GR suite of Secondary Glazing System provides both a designed and effective solution for a range of commercial, residential and public buildings.
Conservation Areas and Listed Buildings
Listed Building Consent restrictions apply very often to properties that retain original period single-glazed windows, these windows although beautifully crafted often have very poor heat and acoustic performance/insulation. Removing and replacing these historical windows is of course not an option. Introducing a secondary glazing system is therefore very often the only feasible option for consideration, this is a reversible alteration to the internal face of the windows, in effect maintaining and conserving the exterior character and aesthetics of a period property whilst creating a very real and positive impact on the buildings thermal and acoustic performance.
Enhanced Building Security
This section is particularly relevant and effective in the many listed and period properties that we work on, very often the original window make-up, design, hardware will lack the robustness and effectiveness of modern security hardware and fittings, a secondary glazing installation will always create a secure and additional security/safety barrier, whist introducing modern and purpose designed opening and locking system.
GR Secondary - Glazing Systems
The Glazing Refurbishment range of aluminium secondary windows is purpose designed for both single and double-glazed existing primary installed windows. GR design, manufacture and install our secondary systems in-house. The GR systems are professionally installed and operational and cleaning and maintenance manuals are provided for both the original/primary windows and the newly designed and installed secondary glazed windows upon project completion. When installed the new secondary glazing system is supported by long term warranties and guaranties and will provide the equivalent thermal and acoustic performance of a comparable or similar double-glazed alternative.
